Michael Putland – Rock the Photo

Michael Putland

Michael Putland (Reino Unido, 1947-2019), deja la escuela a los 16 años para ser asistente de Walter Curtain, uno de los fotógrafos de Time y de Life, y, a continuación, del legendario Louis Klemantaski. En 1969 abre su propio estudio y en 1971 se convierte en el fotógrafo oficial de la revista Disc and Music Echo. Su primer encargo es un reportaje a Mick Jagger. Desde los trabajos para revistas como Disc and Music Echo, Sound, Smash Hits o Q Magazine hasta el tour de 1973 con The Rolling Stones, Putland ha realizado numerosísimos servicios fotográficos para importantes sellos como CBS, Warner, Elektra, Columbia Records y EMI. En 1977 se transfiere a Nueva York donde funda su agencia fotográfica, Retina, para la que produce algunas de las imágenes más icónicas de aquellos años. En 1980 vuelve a Inglaterra donde encuentra una escena muy diversa de la que había dejado: el Glam y el After-Punk.
